Supporting the Caravan Writers’ Guild

Once again, Kingfisher Insurance have co-sponsored the Caravan Writers’ Guild Awards which were held to coincide with the National Motorhome and Caravan Show at the NEC in October.  The sponsorship is made by Kingfisher Insurance on behalf of it’s leisure brand Shield Total Insurance.

This year, the Caravan Writers’ Guild also celebrated its 40th anniversary at its annual industry dinner and the highlight of the evening was the announcement of the winners of the CWG’s annual awards for written and video journalism.

The winners were:

  • The Douglas King Award for Written Journalism: Marcus Leach
  • The John Wickersham Award for Video Journalism: Andrew Ditton

The winners each received a cut glass trophy and £1,000 in cash.

Marcus Leach’s winning article was entitled ‘Cambrian Mountain Catch-Up’, It described a long-awaited family reunion in Wales and was published in Practical Motorhome magazine. It is available to read here: https://caravanwritersguild.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Cambrian-mountains-lo-res.pdf

Andrew Ditton’s winning video “My caravan, My Sanctuary” shows how his caravan benefitted his wellbeing during a difficult time. It can be viewed on Andrew’s YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/s3O7n_Ugyqc

Stuart Craig from Kingfisher Insurance commented: “We are honoured to continue our support of these worthy awards in memory of two great journalists who are sadly no longer with us. The awards are given to those attaining the very highest standards of writing and video production promoting outdoor leisure in all its forms.”

The Chairperson of the Caravan Writers’ Guild, John Rawlings, added: “It is wonderful that the passion for caravans and motorhomes among our members has helped the Guild to continue for 40 years and promote caravanning to a wide audience, as seen by the high standard of entries for our annual journalism awards. Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to all our sponsors who made our 40th anniversary dinner such a special event.”

The Caravan Write Guild were formed in 1982 when a small group of journalists got together with the objective of creating a professional body that would be a power for good within the caravan industry.

On behalf of our Shield and Club Care brands, Kingfisher are proud to support these awards as part of our continued support of journalists who produce great content for the Leisure industry.
