Frequently Asked Questions

What is motor trade insurance?

Motor trade insurance provides cover for businesses involved in working with vehicles to make a profit.  This includes businesses involved in servicing, repairing, selling, maintaining, valeting, detailing, recovering, transporting, or otherwise working with vehicles. Any business aiming to profit from activity in these areas will require motor trade insurance. Motor trade insurance is not suitable for any other purpose.

What does motor trade insurance cover?

Motor trade insurance covers the specific risks faced by businesses working with vehicles. These include road risks cover for motor trade purposes, combined all risks cover, goods in transit, engineering breakdown and inspection, personal accident cover, commercial legal expenses, management liability (otherwise known as Directors and Officers’ insurance) and cyber insurance. We aim to determine which of these covers you will benefit from and provide suitable motor trade insurance for your business.

Which businesses does Kingfisher provide insurance for?

Kingfisher provides insurance to specialist motor traders typically operating from business premises. We usually offer road risks insurance as part of a traders combined package. After initially speaking to you to confirm what you do, we will visit your business to determine your requirements. Our experienced account executives know all types of motor trade business and will help ensure you have appropriate cover for your needs so you’ll be in safe hands.

What is traders combined insurance?

Traders combined insurance brings several different insurance covers you might need into one policy. Alongside road risks insurance, these can include cover for business premises you own or rent (if not covered by your landlord), your own vehicles and customer vehicles used in the motor trade, machinery and plant, defective workmanship, money, tools, employers and public liability, business interruption, and more. Your traders combined insurance will be tailored to your unique requirements to include essential and optional covers.

What are the key features of Kingfisher Motor Trade Insurance?

Our motor trade insurance provides full theft cover, cover for Director and spouses’ vehicles, automatic cover of £250,000 for customer vehicles, loss of MOT cover, and £50,000 increased cost of working cover as standard. Additionally, subject to T&Cs, we offer market value settlement on claims, retrospective rebates for good claims experience, and an excess waiver condition on our policies. Please speak to us for more information and an explanation of how this works.
